Is the plague still a threat?

An article published by National Geographic raises one of the health concerns of the 21st century. It is an interview in which Dr Florence Sebbane (Inserm research director in charge of the "Plague & Yersinia pestis" team at the CIIL) and Dr Javier Pizarro-Cerda (head of the Yersinia research unit at the Pasteur Institute in Paris) attempt to answer the question: Is the plague still a threat?

In 2020, around 100 cases of bubonic plague occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and around 20 in Mongolia and China. WHO now considers the disease to be re-emerging.
